What is it?

Northrend Bound is a strategy-RPG game, and a remake of Founders of the North. It is based in an alternate Warcraft universe where something happened to the human kingdom of Northrend. You are a lowly wanderer (of varying races) determined to become the next king. How you do it? That's completely up to you.

My goal is to make something that's as fun as possible, with many different ways to go about playing the game. Here's a snippet from the game:

The old kingdom has fallen into disarray.
It is broken and divided, but not all is lost.
The people seek a new leader to face the trials of the North.
Will you rise to the cause?
There will be many challenges and choices. Allies and enemies.
To be a tyrant or a hero, the decision is yours.

Features:

Features include but are not limited to:

  • Single player OR co-op OR free-for-all
  • Hunting, fishing, mining, farming, lumber gathering, digging, base building
  • Crafting with over 200 items
  • Rotating structures and walls, gates that open
  • Skills changing with weapon type (similar to GW2)
  • "QWER - DFG" hotkeys
  • Kick-ass backpack system
  • Semi-balanced races: they have strengths and weaknesses
  • Unit ranking system
  • Morality system based on reputation with the townsfolk
  • Naval combat
  • Espionage through direct and indirect means
  • A focus on town building, hero development, or a combination of the two
  • Different ways to win: economic victory (have "x" gold), conquest victory (destroy all other town halls), heroic victory (kill all bosses, not finished yet)

The old kingdom is all but gone. A little over a decade ago, dark magic washed over these lands and exacted a terrible price.

The forests, are dying.

The mountains, are in perpetual frost.

The animals become more aggressive day by day.

Undead roam the coasts,

and the Queen has shut out her people. She hasn't been seen since that day.

Changelog:

  • Version 1.1: Added bandit techtree, improved the diplomacy system, added random events, adjusted base mana regen, added a "-cam" command, optimised map to improve performance, bug fixes (tent in particular, many others)
  • Version 1.24: 
    - Computer player AI: all computer player slots now spawn in a custom bandit AI that's really challenging! Defeating them counts towards a conquest victory. 
    - Added minimap icons to clarify dungeon and town locations.
    - Added the "Obelisk of Help" and "-help" command for information about gameplay.
    - Increased fish required for "master angler," fishing boats now don't spam messages, increased fishing boat and firepit inventory, added a "drop all" ability to boats and pack horses.
    - Improved code efficiency all around.
    - Furry critters no longer suicide against ancients (even though it was hilarious)

Update version 0.851:

- more tooltip fixes, complete rebalance for polearm and flying units, buffed intel abilities, fixed minor bugs with upgrades, fixed alliance system bugs, added Troll mercenaries, added a loading screen, made day and night last 5 minutes (up from 4 minutes), added the "-name" command to change player name by request

Expect the next update to come out around August 25.

New things to be implemented:

- Crossbows and grimoire weapons for heroes (more skill and build options)

- Fixes to allow loading saved games

- Resetting dungeons with difficulty scaling, dungeon quests for experience

- Finished terrain

- Improved diplomacy systems

EDIT:

Pre-release patch v0.9 includes:

- loading fix, more terrain finished, new weapons, file size reduction below 8 MB to allow hosting the map with more options, added "Geoffery Good-Dealz"; gambler extraordinaire, added more NPC dialog

Version 1.24 is now out, featuring:
- Computer player AI: all computer player slots now spawn in a custom bandit AI that's really challenging! Defeating them counts towards a conquest victory.
